Luigi Dadaglio
Luigi Cardinal Dadaglio (born September 28, 1914 in Sezzadio , Alessandria Province , Italy , † August 22, 1990 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Luigi Dadaglio studied at the seminary in Acqui trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 22 May 1937 where the sacrament of Holy Orders . After a few months as a pastor he was released for further studies, so that he completed a doctoral degree from 1938 to 1942, which he completed in 1942 at the Pontifical Athenaeum Lateranense with both a doctorate in canon law and one in civil law , he was awarded the academic degree of Dr. . iur. utr. awarded.
He also attended the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy from 1941 to 1943 and joined the Vatican's diplomatic service in 1942 . There he initially worked in the Vatican State Secretariat . On August 24, 1946, Pope Pius XII awarded him . the honorary title of Surplus Secret Chamberlain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). From 1946 to 1950 he was secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti and the Dominican Republic .
From 1950 to 1953 Luigi Dadaglio was a member of the staff of the Apostolic Delegation in the USA . In 1953 and 1954 he worked for the Apostolic Delegation in Canada , from 1954 to 1958 for the Apostolic Delegation in Australia . On October 1, 1956, Pius XII awarded him. the title of House Prelate of His Holiness . From 1958 to 1960 Dadaglio was Nunciature Councilor in the Apostolic Nunciature in Colombia . In 1960 Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the Apostolic Nuncio in Venezuela . On October 28, 1961, he was appointed titular archbishop of Lerus . The episcopal ordination received Luigi Dadaglio by Secretary of State Cardinal Amleto Giovanni Cicognani on December 8 of that year in the church San Gregorio Magno al Celio ; Co- consecrators were Archbishop Angelo Dell'Acqua and Giuseppe dell'Omo , Bishop of Acqui .
Luigi Dadaglio participated in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . Pope Paul VI appointed him in 1967 apostolic nuncio in Spain . Pope John Paul II called him back to Rome in 1980 as secretary of the Congregation for the Sacraments . He accepted Luigi Dadaglio on May 25, 1985 as a cardinal deacon with the title deaconry San Pio V a Villa Carpegna in the college of cardinals and appointed him a major cardinal penitentiary . In 1987, Cardinal Luigi Dadaglio was President of the Central Committee for the Marian Year . In April 1990 he resigned from office due to illness.
He died in Rome on August 22, 1990 and was buried in his native Sezzadio.
