San Pio V

San Pio V a titled deaconry and parish church in the Roman quarter of Aurelio . It is dedicated to Pope Saint Pius V , who ruled at the time of the Council of Trent .

history

The parish was founded on December 10, 1951 by a decree by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara . The construction of the church was designed by the architect Tullio Rossi and started in 1952. On February 24, 1962, the church was consecrated by Cardinal Luigi Traglia .

In 1973 the church was opened by Pope Paul VI. elevated to title diakonia.

Pope Paul VI attended the Church on March 9, 1969 and Pope John Paul II on October 28, 1979.

The outside of the church has a light brick masonry and is decorated with a mosaic by Joseph Stracota with Saint Pius V, Saint Mary and with scenes from the Battle of Lepanto . In the middle is the coat of arms of Pope Pius XII . let in. On the left side of the church is the campanile .

inside view

Inside, like a basilica, it has three naves, which are divided by red marble columns. The aisles are also lower than the central nave. There are six chapels on the left. The central nave has two rows of windows and a semicircular apse. There is also the sanctuary, which is slightly raised and contains the main altar.

organ

In the apse to the left of the sanctuary is an organ built in 1994.

The instrument has an electric action and is surrounded by a wooden case. It has 25 registers, two manuals with 61 notes and a pedal with 32 notes.
