Thouarcé is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Bellevigne-en-Layon with 1,957 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the communes of Champ-sur-Layon , Faveraye-Mâchelles , Faye-d'Anjou , Rablay-sur-Layon and Thouarcé were merged into a commune nouvelle called Bellevigne-en-Layon. The municipality of Thouarcé was part of the Arrondissement of Angers and the canton of Chemillé-Melay (until 2015: canton of Thouarcé ).

Thouarcé is located about 25 kilometers south of Angers and about 30 kilometers west of Saumur , on the Layon River .

Viticulture

Thouarcé is home to one of the great dessert wines of the Loire wine region : the Bonnezeaux . However, certain wines can also be declared as Chaume .
