Michalis Konstantinou ( Greek Μιχάλης Κωνσταντίνου , born February 19, 1978 in Paralimni ) is a former football player from Cyprus . He is the most expensive player in his country and currently also the most successful goalscorer in the Republic of Cyprus.

Career

Konstantinou started his career in his home country with Enosis Neon Paralimni . In the 1996/97 season he scored 17 goals in 25 games and was the top scorer. Then he moved to Greece to Iraklis . There he scored 60 times in 119 games and moved into the UEFA Cup with the club .

After four years Konstantinou left the club and moved to Panathinaikos Athens for around 15 million euros . This is the highest sum ever paid for a Greek Cyprus football player. With his new club he played in the UEFA Champions League , but failed at FC Barcelona . After his contract with Panathinaikos expired, he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus in 2005 . There he received a three-year contract. With Piraeus he managed to win the championship and the cup in 2006. In 2008 the expiring contract was not extended, which is why Konstantinou moved back to Iraklis in the summer . There he was not happy in contrast to his first engagement and so he left the club during the winter break for the Republic of Cyprus to Omonia Nicosia .
