Marios Neophytou (born February 4, 1977 in Limassol ) is a former Cypriot football player and current coach.
Career
society
Neophytou started his career in 1993 at AEL Limassol . He stayed there until 1999 when he was transferred to Anorthosis Famagusta . His last season for Anorthosis Famagusta was arguably his most successful. This season he scored a total of 33 goals for his team and was the top scorer in the First Division for the 2002/03 season. After this performance he aroused great interest from the Greek club OFI Crete , where he moved in the summer of 2003. But after only one season in Greece , he moved back to Cyprus to APOEL Nicosia , where he scored 26 goals in three years. In June 2007 he signed a contract with AEK Larnaka . After he played for Nea Salamis Famagusta in 2008 and for Olympiakos Nicosia in 2009 . After only six months, he then moved to APOP Kinyras Peyias . But even there he only played nine league games and then moved to the second division club Akritas Chlorakas , where he worked there as a player- coach until the summer of 2012. In June 2012, Neophytou moved to league competitor APEP Pitsilia to perform the same job there. Another move followed in April 2013, this time to AO Agia Napa . As a player-coach, he completed two league games there and then ended his career.
In October 2013 he became assistant coach at AEL Limassol under the Bulgarian and head coach Iwajlo Petew . After Petew was fired in November 2014, Neophytou also had to vacate his post. From October 2015 to January 2017 he was Ermis Aradippou's assistant coach .
National team
From 2000 to 2004 he completed five international matches for the Cypriot national football team . He made his debut on November 15, 2000 in the 5-0 win in the World Cup qualification against Andorra , where he came in the 74th minute for Marios Agathokleous in the game.
