The Resolution 1748 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the situation in the Middle East that the United Nations Security Council has adopted unanimously at its 5648th meeting on March 27 of 2007.

With the resolution, the Security Council expressed its will to clarify the background to the attack on the vehicle convoy of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri , in which al-Hariri and 22 others were killed, and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Security Council invoked all relevant resolutions, in particular resolutions 1636 (2005) , 1644 (2005) , 1664 (2006) and 1686 (2006) , as well as resolutions 1373 (2001) and 1566 (2004), and reiterated its condemnation of the terrorist attack on February 14, 2007 on two buses near Ain Alaq .

In making its decision, the panel was based on the seventh report of the commission of inquiry (document S / 2007/150) and was aware of the letter from the Lebanese Prime Minister to the Secretary-General of the United Nations dated February 21, 2007 (document S / 2007/159, annex) taken. The head of the International Independent Commission of Inquiry (IIIC), the Belgian Serge Brammertz , had informed the Security Council at a briefing that its investigations would most likely not be completed by June 15, 2007 and Prime Minister Fuad Siniora had therefore proposed an extension of the mandate for one year .

With the adoption of the resolution, the IIIC's mandate was extended for one year to June 15, 2008. However, it enables the mandate to be terminated early if the IIIC reports that its mandate has been fully implemented. The Commission was asked to report on the progress of the investigation every four months.
