UN Security Council resolution 1772

The resolution 1772 of the UN Security Council on 20 August 2007 addresses the situation in Somalia .

She reaffirmed the Security Council's support for the Transitional Government of Somalia and expressed its support for the 2007 Somalia National Reconciliation Conference , which it organized . All parties to the conflict in the Somali civil war are called upon to take part in the conference in Mogadishu . The need to involve all relevant actors in Somalia, including civil society, in the conference and to work towards peace and democratic elections is emphasized.

The mandate of the AU peace mission AMISOM is extended by a further six months; the members of the AU are called upon to support AMISOM in order to create the conditions for a withdrawal of all other foreign troops (meaning the controversial military presence of Ethiopia ) from Somalia. Furthermore, the communiqué of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union of July 18, 2007 is noted. a. a UN peacekeeping mission for Somalia is proposed. The Secretary General is asked to undertake further clarification in this regard. The resolution calls on all states, especially those in the region, to comply with the arms embargo on Somalia, as laid down in resolution 733 (1992) .

The resolution was passed by the United Nations Security Council at its 5732nd session.
