The Resolution 1741 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea , which the United Nations Security Council has adopted unanimously at its 5626th meeting, on 30 January of 2007. The resolution extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) to July 31, 2007.

The Security Council invoked its previous resolutions and opinions on the conflict, in particular resolutions 1320 (2000) , 1430 (2002) , 1466 (2002) , 1640 (2005) , 1681 (2006) and 1710 (2006), and emphasized its commitment on the agreement of Algiers , as well as the importance of the immediate implementation of the decision of the Boundary Commission ( Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission , EEBC, Document S / 2002/423) as a starting point for peace and cooperation between the two sides.

The panel expressly confirms the integrity of the Temporary Security Zone (TSZ), which was agreed with the ceasefire agreement (document S / 2000/601) and calls on all sides to adhere to the commitments made. Furthermore, the resolution underlines the will of the Security Council with regard to the finality and binding nature of the decisions of the Boundary Drawing Commission, to which both sides had declared their agreement, and expressed its disappointment that the Boundary Drawing Commission, for the reasons stated in the report of the UN Secretary General of 22 January 2007 (document S / 2007/33).

Taking into account the report of the Secretary General of January 22, 2007 and his special report of December 15, 2006 (Document S / 2006/992), the Security Council decided to extend UNMEE's mission to July 31, 2007, with the military component from 2,300 is reduced to 1,700 members. However, the Security Council did not change the maximum strength, which was set by resolution 1320 (2000) and later modified by resolutions 1430 (2002) and 1681 (2006), in order to ensure sufficient military strength.

The Security Council once again expressly demanded that Ethiopia accept the decisions of the Border Drawing Commission in accordance with Article 5 of Resolution 1640 (2005) and immediately enable the EEBC to correctly mark the full course of the border . The body demanded that Eritrea immediately withdraw its troops from the TSZ and that Eritrea withdraw, without any conditions, the restrictions that hinder the EEBC with regard to freedom of movement at work. At the same time, it is criticized that the process of marking the border is not making progress.

The resolution called on the Secretary General to address the implementation of the resolution in his next report in April 2007.
