Florin Cheran (born April 5, 1947 in Râmnicu Vâlcea ) is a former Romanian football player . The defender denied 326 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career

The career of Florin Cheran began at Electronica Bucharest in Divizia B . After relegation in 1969, Dinamo Bucharest, a Romanian top club from Divizia A (now Liga 1 ), signed him. At Dinamo he was able to establish himself as a regular player in his second season and became Romanian champions with the club. He was able to repeat this success in 1973 , 1975 and 1977 .

In 1980 Cheran left Dinamo after eleven years and returned to his hometown to Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea , who also played in Divizia A. After two seasons in midfield of the league, he ended his active career in 1982, which he only briefly resumed when he had to help out for a game at Dinamo Bucharest in the 1985/86 season .

National team

Cheran played 38 games for the Romanian national soccer team , but could not score a goal. He made his debut on April 18, 1971 against Albania . After three games, he was not considered by national coach Angelo Niculescu and he returned to the national team in 1974. On June 5, 1974, he celebrated his comeback in the friendly against the Netherlands under coach Valentin Stănescu .

Cheran failed to qualify for a major tournament with the national team. He missed participation in the 1976 European Championship as well as qualifying for the 1978 World Championship . His last appearance was on May 5, 1978 in the Balkan Cup game against Bulgaria , when he was substituted for Mihai Zamfir after just 24 minutes .
