Constantin Cârstea (born February 22, 1949 in Mogoşoaia , † November 16, 2009 in Piteşti ) was a Romanian football player . He denied 244 games in the Romanian Divizia A . In the seasons 1972/73 and 1978/79 he won the Romanian championship with FC Argeş Piteşti . As a coach, he led Gloria Bistrița to win the 1994 cup .

Player career

In 1961, Cârstea began playing football at Dinamo Piteşti (from 1968 FC Argeş Piteşti). In 1969 he joined the squad of the first team that played in Divizia A , the highest Romanian football league. In the first few years he was rarely used and thus had a small share in winning the 1973 championship . It was not until the 1974/75 season that he became a regular in the defense. After the runner-up in 1978 tied with Steaua Bucharest , the second championship followed in the 1978/79 season . After he had only come to eleven missions in the 1982/83 season , he was only used in the second team of FC Argeș from the summer of 1983 before he ended his active career in 1985.

National team

Cârstea played a game for the Romanian national team . On May 13, 1979 he was on the starting line-up for the qualifying game for the 1980 European Championship against Cyprus .

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Cârstea worked as a football coach. In the 1984/85 season he initially looked after FC Argeş Piteşti in the final games of the championship. In the summer of 1990 he was again head coach there. After an eighth place in 1990/91 he was in the 1991/92 season in relegation battle when he was dismissed in December 1991 and replaced by Ion Nunweiller . After an engagement with Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea in Divizia B , he took over Gloria Bistrița at the beginning of the 1992/93 season . In the first year he led the club into the UEFA Cup , where he and his team fell out against NK Maribor in the first round . The championship concluded the club in seventh place, but won the Romanian Cup . The following season his team finished in a place in the front midfield, but failed to qualify for the European Cup again. After he had had a bad start with his team in the 1996/96 season , he was released in October 1995 and replaced by Ion Balaur . A few days later he hired again at FC Argeş, with whom he reached 16th place and thus relegation. At the end of the season, his contract was not extended.

In October 1996, Cârstea was again coach in Bistrița as the successor to Remus Vlad . He held this post for six years. During this time he established Gloria in midfield of Divizia A and moved with his team twice in the UI Cup , but did not qualify for the UEFA Cup there. In the summer of 2002 he was again replaced by Vlad, whom he replaced himself two years later. The 2004/05 season he finished with his team in 13th place, which meant relegation. Gloria replaced him at the end of the season by Ioan Sabau .

At the beginning of 2006, Cârstea trained Unirea Alba Iulia in Divizia B for a few months . In April 2007, he took over FC Argeş again as the successor to Dorinel Munteanu , but could no longer prevent relegation in 2007 . In January 2009 he was the head coach of Gloria Buzau in League 1, but was dismissed after relegation in 2009 .
