Remus Vlad (born January 19, 1946 in Cinciș-Cerna ) is a former Romanian football player and coach . He played a total of 219 games in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , and was there in a total of 367 games as a coach.
Career as a player
Vlad began playing football at Corvinul Hunedoara and came in 1967 in the first team squad, which at that time in the second highest Romanian league, the Divizia B was represented. After a year he got the opportunity to move to FC Argeş Piteşti in the upper house . There he secured a regular place in his first season . After the club was initially only able to place itself in the lower midfield of the league, the club rose to the top division of Divizia A at the beginning of the 1970s. At the end of the 1971/72 season , Vlad was able to win the championship. In the subsequent European Cup , he reached the round of 16, but was eliminated from Real Madrid .
After six years in Piteşti, Vlad left the club and moved back to his hometown club Corvinul Hunedoara in the Divizia B. After two years he managed to rise with Corvinul followed by relegation at the end of the 1976/77 season . After losing his regular seat in the following season , he ended his career in 1978.
National team
Remus Vlad played six games for the Romanian national football team . He made his debut on April 18, 1971 against Albania . He was hardly considered in the subsequent games. He had his last assignment on April 18, 1973 against the Soviet Union .
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Vlad worked as a football coach. His first stop was his hometown club Corvinul Hunedoara , where he was appointed head coach at the beginning of the 1982/83 season as the successor to Mircea Lucescu , who was promoted to national coach. There he could not build on the success of his predecessor, so that the club replaced him a few game days before the end of the season with Florea Dumitrache .
Then Vlad Universitatea Cluj took over in Divizia B , with whom he was promoted to Divizia A in 1985 . In the next few years he managed to place his team in the midfield of the league before they parted ways in December 1988. Some time later he was hired by Gloria Bistrița , with whom he was also promoted to Divizia A in 1990. Just a year later , it led the newcomer to fifth place. After a midfield place in 1991/92 he returned to "U Cluj", where he also managed a midfield placement in the 1992/93 season . After a bad start to the following season , he was released in October 1993.
In the spring of 1994 Vlad was again coach of Corvinul Hunedoara for a short time . He then succeeded Constantin Cârstea again as coach of Gloria Bistrița before he was replaced by his predecessor. In early 1995, the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest signed him as the successor to Ion Moldovan . He was able to qualify with his new club in third place for the UEFA Cup , where he fell out with his team in the preliminary round. He was finally released in October 1995.
In April 1996, Vlad returned to Gloria Bistrița again, where he was already on the bench in the 1996 Cup final , but lost 3-1 to Steaua Bucharest . After a false start in the 1996/97 season , he was released in early October 1997. From 1997 to 1998 Vlad was president of Universitatea Cluj and in the 1999/2000 season he coached Olimpia Satu Mare in Divizia B . In 2000 he returned to Corvinul Hunedoara as a coach, but ended his engagement before the end of the season in 2001.
After a one-year hiatus, Vlad was the head coach of Gloria Bistria for the last time at the beginning of the 2002/03 season . In 2003 he achieved the best placement in the club's history with third place and the associated qualification for the UI Cup . After finishing 12th at the end of the following season , he ended his career in 2004 and has been the club's sports director since then.
