Constantin Stancu (born October 2, 1956 in Piteşti ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played 445 games in Divizia A , the highest Romanian football league. He has been without a club since summer 2012.
Career as a player
Stancu only played for FC Argeş Piteşti from his hometown throughout his career . Emerging from the youth of the club, he joined the first team in 1976, where he made his first appearance in Divizia A on September 1 of the same year . In the course of the 1976/77 season he fought for a regular place, which he did not give up until the end of his career. Starting with the 1977/78 season, he played with his team for the championship. After the runner-up behind the tied Steaua Bucharest he won the title in the 1978/79 season . In the following two years he could not repeat this success and had to give way to FC Universitatea Craiova .
During the 1980s, Stancu could no longer build on this successful time with Argeș and slipped year after year before he had to fight for the first time to stay in the class in the 1988/89 season . On June 2, 1990, he played his last game for Argeș and ended his active career after 14 years after he had secured relegation with his club on the last day of the 1989/90 season .
National team
Stancu played three games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut on June 1, 1983 in the friendly against Yugoslavia , when he came on in the 70th minute for Gino Iorgulescu . He was rarely considered by national coach Mircea Lucescu before his last appearance on March 7, 1984 in the friendly against Greece .
Career as a coach
In the 1989/90 season Stancu was active for six games as a player- coach of his club FC Argeş Piteşti , before he was replaced by Ion Nunweiller in April 1990 . At the beginning of the 1995/96 season he was again head coach of Arges, but was dismissed after 13 matchdays and replaced by Constantin Cârstea .
In October 1997 Stancu was as successor Vasile Aelenei head coach of CF Chindia Targoviste in the Divizia A . At the end of the season he had with his team in the Divizia B dismount. In October 2001 he was after the dismissal of Ilie Stan interim coach of Astra Ploieşti before he was replaced by Gheorghe Mulțescu . On September 15, 2011 he succeeded Stan at CS Mioveni , but had to vacate his place on October 11, 2011 Mihai Stoichiță . Until the end of the season, however, he stayed with Mioveni as an assistant coach.
