Maurice Pelling

Maurice James Pelling (* 1920 in Romford ; † June 7, 1973 in Dénia , Spain ) was an English art director and set designer who won an Oscar for best production design .

Life

Pelling began his work as art director and set designer in 1945 for the film The Man From Morocco (The Man From Morocco) and was involved in the staging of 25 other films until 1973.

In 1964 he won the Oscar for best production design in a color film, together with John DeCuir , Jack Martin Smith , Hilyard M. Brown , Herman A. Blumenthal , Elven Webb , Boris Juraga , Walter M. Scott , Paul S. Fox and Ray Moyer , namely for the monumental film Cleopatra (1963) by Joseph L. Mankiewicz with Elizabeth Taylor , Richard Burton and Rex Harrison in the leading roles .

He died in a car accident in Dénia , Spain June 7, 1973.
