John DeCuir

John DeCuir (born June 4, 1918 in San Francisco , California , † October 29, 1991 in Santa Monica , California) was an American film architect .

Life

After completing his training at Chouinard Art School, John DeCuir was employed by Universal Studios in the late 1930s and worked as an art director from the mid-1940s. In 1949 he moved to 20th Century Fox . He has been nominated for an Oscar eleven times for his work . He received the award three times, the respective films were The King and I , Cleopatra and Hello, Dolly! . He only worked sporadically for television, in 1978 he received the Emmy for the television production Ziegfeld: The Man and His Women . His last film was Ghostbusters in 1984.

His son John DeCuir junior also works as a production designer and worked on Top Gun , among other things .
