Ștefan Gabriel "Fane" Preda (born June 18, 1970 in Ploieşti , Prahova district ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . The goalkeeper played 290 games in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , and was in the squad for the 1994 World Cup .
Career as a player
Preda's career began with Minerul Filipeşti de Pădure in Divizia C , before he moved to Petrolul Ploieşti in Divizia Națională in 1993 and was there on June 13, 1993 for his first assignment. At the beginning of the 1993/94 season he was the goalkeeper of his club. The club wavered in the following years between relegation battle and battle for participation in the UEFA Cup . With the 1995 cup victory in the final against Rapid Bucharest , he was able to win his first title.
In the winter break 1997/98 Preda left his hometown and moved to the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest . There he fought with the Moroccan Khalid Fouhami for the place in the gate, where he came in the 1998/99 season only ten missions. At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season , he finally prevailed against his rivals and was the backing of the team in winning the double from the championship and the 2000 cup .
In the winter break of 2000/01 Preda moved to league rivals Astra Ploieşti , before joining FC Universitatea Craiova six months later . Here he became a regular again, but returned to Dinamo in 2002. He could not sit down and was in the second half of the FC Arges Pitesti borrowed. After his return he was used more often at Dinamo, but did not manage to assert himself permanently. Nevertheless, he won the double again at the end of the season .
Preda moved again to FC Argeș in 2004, but remained a substitute for a few missions. After a year and a half, he moved to Divizia B at Unirea Urziceni , where he made promotion in 2006. Preda left the club and ended in autumn 2006 with the newcomer to Divizia B, Chimia Brazi , his active career.
Career as a coach
In October 2006 Preda took over the coaching position at Chimia Brazi, the club for which he had been in goal in the current season. He was already the fifth head coach at the bottom of the table within two months and two more should follow by the end of the season. However, they did not manage to save Chimia Brazi from relegated to the third division. Preda was fired in April 2007 for unsuccessfulness and replaced by Octavian Grigore . He then took over the position of general director at the Școala de Fotbal Daniel Chiriță , which had been founded by Daniel Chiriță , the player from UTA Arad , and turned down the offers of the two first division clubs Dacia Mioveni and FC Vaslui to work there as goalkeeping coach . Three days before the start of the 2008/09 season, Preda returned on July 31, 2008 as a coach to Chimia Brazi in League III , but was replaced on April 12, 2009 before the end of the season by Ion Cojocaru . In the summer of 2009 Preda became a youth coach at Chimia and initially took care of the birth cohorts 1996 and 2010 the cohort of 1995. In addition, in the spring and summer of 2010 he trained the amateur team of the Prahova district , which won the national eliminations, and competed for the regional tournament in Hungary Sopron qualified. In 2011, Preda and two other coaches sued Chimia Brazi for outstanding salary payments. At that time, Preda was already responsible as a goalkeeping coach for all of Petrolul Ploiesti's youth teams . In the summer of 2013, Constantin Gâlcă became the new coach of the Romanian U-17 national team and appointed Ștefan Preda as his goalkeeping coach. The team remained in office until June 2014 before moving to Steaua Bucharest as a single entity .
National team
Preda played three games for the Romanian national soccer team . He made his debut on June 1, 1994 in a friendly against Slovenia when he came on for Florin Prunea in the 75th minute . National coach Anghel Iordănescu called him in his squad for the 1994 World Cup in the USA , but did not use him as the third goalkeeper behind Prunea and Bogdan Stelea .
Two more internationals followed in February 1995 against Greece and Turkey , when he started for the first time. It was then no longer taken into account.
