The FC Red Star Merl-Belair is a Luxembourg football club from Merl , a district in the west of Luxembourg (city) .
history
The club was founded in 1927 as FC Red Star Merl . During the German occupation of Luxembourg in World War II , it was renamed FV Merl in 1940 . In 1944 it was renamed back to the founding name.
The period from the beginning to the middle of the 1950s was the most successful in the club's history. From 1952 to 1957, the club played in the national division , the highest division in Luxembourg.
In 1952 Red Star reached the final of the Coupe de Luxembourg , but lost to Red Boys Differdange 0-1.
Since 1970 the club has been called FC Red Star Merl-Belair .
1973 Merl-Belair managed to return to the National Division for two years. This was followed by several relegations up to the fifth class 3rd division.
