The following year he narrowly missed the top scorer's crown with 22 goals.

On November 9, 2003, Gomez tested positive for doping after the game against Arminia Bielefeld . He had taken methylprednisolone without disclosing it. He was banned from the DFB for twelve games.

From September 2005 to July 2006, Gomez played for the second division Energie Cottbus , after which he moved back to France for FC Metz for six months . From February 2007 to June 2010 he played in the Dutch Eerste Divisie for MVV Maastricht . After a season in Cyprus with Doxa Katokopia (2010/11), Daniel Gomez was under contract with Jeunesse Esch in Luxembourg and then with F91 Dudelange in the 2011/12 season . In the 2013/14 season he moved to the Belgian club RFC Messancy and moved on to ROC Meix-devant-Virton at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season . Again just one season later, Gomez moved to RUS Ethe Belmont and ended his active career there after the season.
