Jonathan Jäger , also Jonathan Jager , (born May 25, 1978 in Metz ) is a French football player .

During his professional career, he made 78 appearances in Ligue 1 (until 2002 Division 1 ) in his native country for FC Metz and 37 games in the German Bundesliga for SC Freiburg . Jäger has been a player and coach in French amateur football since 2013.

Career

FC Metz

Jäger made his professional debut on October 12, 1996 in a 1-0 defeat on Matchday 12 against Paris Saint-Germain when he came on for Sylvain Kastendeuch in the 80th minute . Three days later, on October 15, 1996, Jäger made his European debut in a 2-0 win in the second round first leg of the UEFA Cup against Sporting Lisbon ; he came on in the 84th minute for Didier Lang .

From October 1999 Jäger played on loan at the then second division club CS Louhans-Cuiseaux . In the second division Jäger came on 25 missions in which he scored 13 hits. Louhans-Cuiseaux was relegated from Division 2. In 2000 Jäger returned to Metz. Here he came to over 20 missions, but he was mostly only substituted in or out. In the following season, Jäger was only rarely allowed to play over 90 minutes; at the end of the season there was even relegation to Ligue 2 . In Ligue 2 Jäger played only 18 games and made five goals; in the end there was direct ascent. Even in the year after the promotion Jäger was denied a regular place, he only played eleven games in the league game.

AC Le Havre

For the 2004/05 season he left Metz and went to the second division AC Le Havre . He made his debut for the ACL on 9 August 2004 on Matchday 1 against Chamois Niort in the starting eleven and was replaced by Christophe Mandanne after 77 minutes . While he was a regular player in the first season (31 games, five hits), he often only found himself on the bench in the first half of the following season. So he only played five games (without scoring).

1. FC Saarbrücken

During the winter break of the 2005/06 season, Jäger changed clubs and went to the then second division club 1. FC Saarbrücken . He made his debut for the new club on February 3, 2006 in a 4-0 win against Sportfreunde . In this game he gave the template to 3-0 and scored the final score. In the second half of this season, after which 1. FC Saarbrücken relegated, Jäger came to eleven games in which he scored five goals. Jäger joined the then third-class regional league . In the 2006/07 season, Jäger played in 34 regional league games and was the top scorer with 17 goals. The FCS rose to the end of the season in the league .

Sc freiburg

For the 2007/08 season, Jäger moved to the then second division club SC Freiburg . Jäger made his debut for Freiburg on August 10, 2007 on the first matchday against VfL Osnabrück in the starting eleven. In the following period, the season for hunters was rather unsatisfactory. In the following games, Jäger was only allowed to play seven times over 90 minutes. At the end of the season he missed promotion to the Bundesliga with SC Freiburg . Meanwhile, Jäger came on a total of 17 missions in which he scored three goals. In the following season, Jäger established himself in the regular eleven and played 28 missions (seven goals). In the end there was promotion to the Bundesliga.

Jäger made his Bundesliga debut on August 9, 2009 on the first matchday against Hamburger SV in the starting eleven. Here he played 83 minutes and was then replaced by Cédric Makiadi . At the end of the season there was a league. Jäger had played a total of 25 times and scored no goal. In the 2010/11 season Jäger lost his regular place to Papiss Demba Cissé . Jäger played his last game for SC Freiburg on May 14, 2011; in the 0: 1 against Bayer 04 Leverkusen he was substituted on for Anton Putsila in the 71st minute . At the end of the season, SC Freiburg was again relegated. At the end of the 2010/11 season, Jäger only had twelve appearances in the league game (without scoring). In his four years in Freiburg, Jäger played a total of 82 appearances (45 in the second and 37 in the first division), in which he scored ten goals - all in the 2nd Bundesliga.

F91 Dudelange

After a period of non-association, Jäger signed a contract with the Luxembourg first division club F91 Dudelange on November 21, 2011 . However, the change did not take place until the beginning of 2012. Half a year later, Jäger became champion with the Luxembourg Association.

CSO Amneville

In 2013, Jonathan Jäger switched to amateur football in Lorraine and played at CSO Amnéville until summer 2015 .

Racing Holtzwihr 96

Jäger has been playing for the Alsatian club Racing Holtzwihr 96 in the Ligue D Alsace - Haut-Rhin since the 2015/16 season and also took over the coaching position from May 2016.

Spelling of the surname

The attacker has Alsatian ancestors, whose surname is traditionally spelled “hunter”. However, since there are no umlauts in French , it is officially written “Jager” there. However, 1. FC Saarbrücken and SC Freiburg wrote it “Jäger”.
