FC Petržalka 1898 is a Slovak football club from Bratislava , the club is based in the Petržalka district (Eng. Engerau) and wears the club colors green, black and white. Petržalka is one of the most traditional football clubs in Slovakia.
history
The predecessor of Artmedia was founded at the end of the 19th century, at that time the club was one of the strongest in Hungary . During the Second World War, the then still independent village of Petržalka belonged to the Third Reich as Engerau . The club later played in the Czechoslovak first division for two years .
The team achieved their greatest successes in 2005 with the championship title in the Slovak Corgoň league and entry into the main round of the UEFA Champions League . Artmedia was one of the two clubs that made it into the group stage from the first round of qualifying for the 2005/06 Champions League . The other club was last year's winner, Liverpool FC .
Artmedia caused a big surprise in the group stage when the team caught up 2-0 deficit on September 28, 2005 and beat the 2003/04 Champions League winners of 2003/04, FC Porto , 3-2 at the Estádio do Dragão . won.
In June 2009 the club changed its name from FC Artmedia Petržalka to MFK Petržalka. In 2010 the club was relegated from the Corgoň liga and was renamed FC Petržalka 1898.
