Andreas Thomsson (born May 27, 1971 in Kalmar ) is a former Swedish football player . After the end of his active career, in which he played in Sweden and Norway, he began a career as a coach.

Career

Thomsson began his football career at Mörbylånga GoIF before moving to Kalmar FF as a young player . After four years with the club, he moved to the fifth division club Färjestadens GoIF in 1994, with whom he marched through to the third division within two years. Although he missed the league with the team at the end of the 1996 season there, he stayed at the league level and returned to Kalmar FF, who had been relegated from the second division. With the club he managed again a march through two leagues when the return to the second division was managed without a loss of the season, in which the team then ended the southern season as leaders with one point ahead of Landskrona BoIS . Under coach Nanne Bergstrand he was together with Johan Paulsson with seven goals this season, the club's best internal goalscorer, after a 1-1 draw and a 1-2 defeat against the Gothenburg club GAIS in the relegation games, but he missed with the team in the first division season 1999 relegation.

In early 2001 Thomsson moved to Norway. He played one season in the Adeccoligaen for Sandefjord Fotball . For the second division season in 2002 he returned to Sweden and joined Åtvidabergs FF . Until 2004 he ran for the club in the second highest division , before he ended his active career in the summer of that year to take over the coaching position at the fourth division club Linköping FF. With the previous year’s relegation, he finished the last non-relegation place at the end of the year. In the following season he survived a league reform with the team at the fourth level.

In 2006 Thomsson returned to Åtvidabergs FF, where he took over the post of assistant coach under coach Kent Karlsson . At the same time, he was involved in the Facetten Bildningscentrum as a sports teacher and responsible for football. When Karlsson left the club at the end of the year, he remained in the same position under the newly appointed Peter Swärdh . With the club, the two reached sixth place in the Superettan twice in a row, before Swärdh followed an offer from league competitor Mjällby AIF at the end of October after the 2008 season . Briefly brought up by the press as a successor, he turned it down with reference to his strong role as an assistant and his work at the sports school. So he stayed in the background and assisted the new coach Daniel Wiklund . With the team around players like Pontus Karlsson , Daniel Hallingström , Jesper Arvidsson and Kristian Bergström , the club finished second in the second division season 2009 behind Mjällby AIF and rose to Allsvenskan.

At the start of the first division season 2010 Åtvidabergs FF conceded three defeats in a row and remained without a goal. The club then separated from Wiklund at the end of March and appointed Thomsson as his successor. After the club's relegation at the end of the season, he stayed in office and rose directly back up with the team. This time they managed to stay in the league as eighth in the table.

Despite the success, Thomsson left the club and joined the first division promoted Östers IF in early December 2012 , where he replaced Roar Hansen who had migrated to Helsingborgs IF and signed a two-year contract with the option of another season.
