Justin Mapletoft (born January 11, 1981 in Lloydminster , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with EHC Basel in the National League B until summer 2012 .
Career
Mapletoft began his career in 1996 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Red Deer Rebels . Having been improved continuously and there was one already in his third year with the team internally best scorers who were NHL - Scouts attention to the left hand shooters. During the NHL Entry Draft 1999 he was selected by the New York Islanders in the fifth round in a total of 130th position. The trained striker then stayed in the WHL for two years and was able to increase his points yield again. His last year with the Deer Rebels was also his best, he was able to achieve 120 scorer points in 70 games and show a plus / minus statistic of +45.
In the summer of 2001 Mapletoft moved to the American Hockey League for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the New York Islanders' farm team . The then 20-year-old also made a good impression with the Sound Tigers and was given his first chance to prove himself in the NHL during the 2002/03 season . In the end, he completed eleven NHL games in which he scored four points scorer. After two more years, in which he was mainly used in the NHL, Mapletoft decided to move to Europe and signed a contract with Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga . After only 18 games for the famous Finnish club, he moved to the Swedish Elitserien to Södertälje SK , where he ended the current season.
In the 2006/07 season , those responsible for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers noticed him and were able to convince him of a commitment in Nürnberg . After the season ended, Mapeltoft finally accepted an offer from the Ottawa Senators . In Ottawa , however, he played no role and was only used in their farm team, the Binghamton Senators . After he hardly had any chances of a possible breakthrough in the National Hockey League , he joined the EC Villach sports club from the Austrian Bundesliga in summer 2008 .
Between September 2009 and March 2011 he was in the squad of the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . From July 2011 to November 2011 Mapletoft played for the SERC Wild Wings in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey . On November 16, 2011, he was eliminated from the squad after making six assists in 14 games. A day later, the Canadian joined HC Sierre from the Swiss National League B before moving to EHC Basel after only two games within the league .
