Tomáš Fleischmann (born May 16, 1984 in Kopřivnice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played 696 games for the Washington Capitals , Colorado Avalanche , Florida Panthers , Anaheim Ducks , Canadiens de Montréal between 2000 and 2016 and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . However, the multiple Czech national player celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Hershey Bears by winning the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League in 2006.
Career
The 1.85 m tall winger began his career at HC Vitkovice , where he went through the entire youth department. In 2002 he moved to North America and was signed by the Moose Jaw Warriors from the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as 63rd in the second round by the Detroit Red Wings .
First, the left shooter was used by the Portland Pirates , a farm team of the Red Wings, in the American Hockey League , but before he could complete an NHL game for Detroit, he was transferred to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Robert Lang . Fleischmann was also initially used by the capital city in the AHL, in addition to the games he played for the Hershey Bears , he was also more and more often on the ice for the Capitals in the NHL. With the Bears, the striker won the Calder Cup , the championship of the AHL, in the 2005/06 season . On March 18, 2007 the Fleischmann managed for the first time in his NHL career to achieve more than one scorer point in a game . In the game against Tampa Bay Lightning , he scored two goals and two assists .
Since the 2007/08 season , Tomáš Fleischmann has been a permanent member of the Washington Capitals, for which he set a personal record in the 2009/10 season with 51 points in 69 completed games. In the following season Fleischmann could not build on this point quota. On November 30, 2010, the winger was transferred to the Colorado Avalanche , the Capitals received the defender Scott Hannan in return . In January 2011, Fleischmann was diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs, causing the Czech to be out for the rest of the season.
The Colorado Avalanche decided not to extend Fleischmann's expiring contract due to this illness, which he suffered for the second time. The Czech was then signed by the Florida Panthers for four years on July 1, 2011 . After four years in Florida, he left the Panthers in February 2015, being given to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Dany Heatley and a third-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft . The Czech ended the season with the Ducks, but did not receive a new contract. As a result, he joined the Canadiens de Montréal training camp on a trial basis , which eventually resulted in a new one-year contract. In February 2016, Fleischmann was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks together with Dale Weise in exchange for Phillip Danault and a second-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . With the Blackhawks, Fleischmann ended the 2015/16 season, but did not receive a continuing contract in Chicago, whereupon he finally ended his active career.
