Emil Brunner (born November 10, 1908 in Diesbach ; † September 18, 1995 ) was a Swiss photographer .

Life

Brunner was the son of a throttle master (master of the spinning machines). He attended schools in Diesbach, Härkingen , Baden and Winterthur . From 1925 to 1929 he completed an apprenticeship as a ship construction draftsman at Sulzer AG in Winterthur. In addition, the works photographer Emil Wiederkehr trained him to be a photographer. After completing his apprenticeship, he photographed the clean-up work and the reconstruction of the former battlefields of the First World War in France and Belgium for six months .

In the 1930s and 1940s he ran his own photo shop in Baden and traveled all over the world as a freelance photo reporter: Iceland , Svalbard , Africa , South America , Antarctica , Alaska , Finland , Tahiti , etc. The aircraft pioneer Walter Mittelholzer brought him photography from the Plane at. In the winter of 1944/1945 he was a war reporter on the Western Front . In 1948 he moved to Braunwald .

His photographs have appeared in Life , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Atlantis , Le Vie del Mondo, Schweizer Illustrierte , Westermanns Monatshefte , Harper's Bazaar , Holiday (Magazin), etc. Low-altitude photos from Scandinavia and the Sahara have been published in magazines around the world. His estate is at the Swiss Foundation for Photography in Winterthur (Hugger Collection).
