Brendan Mikkelson (born June 22, 1987 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with MODO Hockey in Allsvenskan , Sweden , since April 2020 .
Career
Brendan Mikkelson began his career as a hockey player with the Portland Winter Hawks , for whom he was active in the Western Hockey League from 2003 to 2005 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the second round as the 31st player of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . The defender was initially on the ice for two more years in the WHL for the Vancouver Giants , with whom he won the 2007 Memorial Cup . During the 2007-08 season, Mikkelson made his professional ice hockey debut when he played for Anaheim's then- farm team , the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League .
During the 2008/09 season , Mikkelson was added to the squad of the NHL team of the Anaheim Ducks. In October 2010 the Ducks management put him on the waiver list, from which the Calgary Flames signed him . In January 2012, the Flames transferred him to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Blair Jones .
On July 19, 2013, Mikkelson received a two-way contract from the Pittsburgh Penguins and was used exclusively with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins in the 2013/14 season .
Change to Europe
In September 2014 he was signed for one season by the Toronto Marlies before he was signed by Luleå HF from Svenska Hockeyligan in May 2015 and played there until the end of the 2017/18 season.
On June 15, 2018, Mikkelson was signed by the Adlers Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League and won the German championship with them at the end of the season . After this success, however, he did not receive a new contract and moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga .
International
For the Canadian national team , Mikkelson was on the ice at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 . In six encounters he contributed two assists to Team Canada’s silver medal win .

family
Brendan Mikkelson comes from a hockey family: his father, Bill Mikkelson , played for four years in the NHL in the early 1970s , including for the Los Angeles Kings , New York Islanders and Washington Capitals . Brendan's sister Meaghan is a Canadian national player, two-time Olympic champion and multiple medalist at world championships. His great-uncle Jim McFadden won the Calder Trophy in 1948 and the Stanley Cup in 1950 .
