Brett Breitkreuz (born April 6, 1989 in Springside , Saskatchewan ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Bietigheim Steelers in the DEL2 since May 2019 . In the DEL he was active for the Cologne Sharks and the Augsburg Panthers .
Career
Brett Breitkreuz began his career as a hockey player with the Yorkton Terriers, for which he was active in the 2005/06 season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . He then played for four years in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , where he was on the ice for the Kelowna Rockets , Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants . In the 2009/10 season he was also assistant captain with the Oil Kings.
Also due to his German ancestors, he was committed after his junior years in Canada, by the then coach of the Cologne Sharks , Bill Stewart , for the season 2010/11 , for which he was on September 17, 2010 in the 1: 2 defeat against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers made its debut in the German Ice Hockey League . He was active for the Haie in three seasons, and in the 2012/13 season he was also used in part for the Oberliga cooperation partner Füchse Duisburg . In his missions, Breitkreuz distinguished himself as a tough defensive player with so-called enforcer qualities.
For the 2013/14 season he moved to league rivals Augsburger Panther , for which he was active for two seasons in the highest German ice hockey league.
For the 2015/16 season he accepted the offer from the Löwen Frankfurt from the second German ice hockey league , in which he plays together with his younger brother Clarke . In the 2019/20 season, Breitkreuz moved to the Bietigheim Steelers .
