Matt McKnight (born June 14, 1984 in Halkirk , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Bietigheim Steelers in the DEL2 since 2013 .
Career
McKnight played from 2002 to 2004 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Camrose Kodiaks and won the Rogers Wireless Cup with his team in 2003 as a play-off winner . Of the Dallas Stars , he was in the NHL Entry Draft in 2004 in the ninth round at the 280th spot drafted . He then moved to the United States and played four seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association .
From this purely American college league National Collegiate Athletic Association , he moved to the ECHL in 2008 , where he signed on after a few games for the Las Vegas Wranglers with the Idaho Steelheads , the farm team of the NHL team Dallas Stars . After an injury in the 2010/11 season , he was only used in 16 games.
He then ventured to Germany in the 2011/12 season and, like his previous teammate Mark Derlago, joined the Lausitzer Füchsen . In 2013 he moved within the DEL2 to the Bietigheim Steelers , with whom he was able to become master of the DEL2 for the first time in 2015 . Following the main round in 2016/17 , he was named "Striker of the Year" by the DEL2. He had led the DEL2 main round that season with 72 points (24 goals). He was also able to convince in 2017/18 and with 78 points (34 goals) was the third-best scorer in the main round and contributed 15 points (2 goals) to his team's title win in the subsequent playoffs in 13 games. The main round 2018/19 was also extremely successful for McKnight, as he and his team again took second place after the main round and scored just as many points as the Heilbronn Roope Ranta ; He led the template and face-off statistics (57 percent). Following the main round, he was again named “Striker of the Year” and, for the first time, “Player of the Year” of the DEL2.
