Career
Brendan Gallagher began his career with the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the British Columbia Major Midget League before he was signed by the Vancouver Giants from the Western Hockey League . In his rookie season he scored 31 points with a plus / minus balance of +26. In the play-offs , the Vancouver Giants moved into the Conference Finals, but failed there at the Kelowna Rockets . After he scored 41 goals in the following season and he was fifth-best scorer in the play-offs with 21 points, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2010 in the fifth round of the Canadiens de Montréal . He then stayed two more years with his junior club in the WHL. He managed to score over 40 goals in three consecutive seasons from 2009 to 2012. He was most successful in the 2010/11 season , when he scored 44 goals and 47 assists in 66 games. With 91 scorer points, he finished eighth in a league-wide comparison. At the same time he collected over 100 penalty minutes.
Gallagher holds the Vancouver Giants franchise records for most goals scored (136) and scorer points (280).
On November 16, 2011, Gallagher signed with the Canadiens an entry contract for three years from the 2012/13 season. On October 13, 2012, he played his first game with the farm team of the Canadiens in the AHL , the Hamilton Bulldogs , and was able to achieve an assist. In January 2013, after the lockout in the NHL, he was named to the Canadiens squad.
In his NHL debut against the Florida Panthers on January 22, 2013, he was able to achieve his first scorer point with a template before he also scored his first goal two games later in the game against the New Jersey Devils . Gallagher immediately established himself as a regular with the Canadiens and was temporarily promoted to the team's first row after the change from Erik Cole . At the end of the season he was the second best scorer with 15 goals and fourth best scorer among the league's rookies with 28 points and was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy , which is awarded annually to the best new professionals. He was also elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team .
In the course of the following years, Gallagher established himself as a regular scorer with the Canadiens and reached the mark of 30 goals for the first time in the 2017/18 season, an achievement which he confirmed in the following season.
International
Gallagher played his first international tournament at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2009 when he won the silver medal with the Canada Pacific selection . He then attended a selection camp for the Canadian junior national team three times in 2010 and 2011 without immediately making the leap into the selection. After all, he was appointed to Team Canada for the first time at the 2012 U20 World Youth Championship , which was held in his home province of Alberta . After being eliminated in the semi-finals against the Russian team, the team won the bronze medal. Gallagher scored a total of three goals and three assists, and he also gave 35 shots on goal in the course of the tournament, more than any other Canadian player.
In the men's area, Gallagher made his debut at the 2016 World Championships and won the gold medal there with the team.
