Career
youth
Ben Chiarot comes from a football family, with his grandfather playing in the Canadian Football League and his father for the University of Western Ontario . Ben Chiarot started organized ice hockey in his hometown of Hamilton at the age of five and later played on youth teams in Toronto and Mississauga . In 2007 he was selected by the Guelph Storm in 34th position of the OHL Priority Selection and thus played with the beginning of the 2007/08 season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the three highest junior leagues in Canada .
After he had only come to 31 missions in his debut season, he established himself in his second season with the Storm and came in 67 games to 13 points scorer. He was then selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in 120th position by the Atlanta Thrashers . After 41 games in the next season, the Guelph Storm gave him to the Sudbury Wolves and received Chris VanLaren in return; in addition, two second-round voting rights of the OHL Priority Selections in 2011 and 2012 went to Sudbury, while the Storm received a six -round (2011) and an eleven-round vote (2012). After finishing the season in Sudbury, Chiarot made his professional debut with the first appearance for the Atlanta Thrashers' farm team , the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).
After just under a year with the Sudbury Wolves, Chiarot was handed over to the Saginaw Spirit together with John McFarland in December 2010 , while the Wolves received Michael Sgarbossa , Alex Racino and Frank Schumacher in return ; in addition, a third-round suffrage went to Saginaw and a four-round suffrage to Sudbury (each for the OHL Priority Selection 2011). He finished the season with the Spirit with 24 points from 39 games and signed an entry-level contract with the Thrashers after the end of the season .
Winnipeg Jets
The Atlanta Thrashers were relocated to Canada in the summer of 2011 and from then on operated as Winnipeg Jets . At the same time, the farm team changed, so that Chiarot spent the 2011/12 season with the St. John's IceCaps in the AHL and with the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL , with only a total of 42 missions due to some injuries. After the Canadian finished last in the Atlantic Division with the IceCaps in the 2012/13 season , sporting success returned the following season, with Chiarot scoring 20 points in 65 games and reaching the final of the Calder Cup with the team , that they lost to the Texas Stars . He also made his debut for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL in November 2013 , although this was his only assignment for the time being. In July 2014, the Jets extended his contract for a year.
After the defender was back in the ranks of St. John's IceCaps at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the Winnipeg Jets called him back to the NHL squad in December 2014, where he was able to establish himself.
Canadiens de Montréal
After eight years in the organization of the Jets, his contract was not renewed after the 2018/19 season. As a result, Chiarot joined the Canadiens de Montréal as a free agent in July 2019 , who provided him with a three-year contract that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 3.5 million.
