Jeffrey "Jeff" Petry (* 9. December 1987 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who, since March 2015, the de Canadiens Montréal in the National Hockey League is under contract and for those on the position of the defender plays . His father Dan Petry was a professional baseball player and played in Major League Baseball for 13 years .
Career
Jeff Petry began his career as a hockey player with the Des Moines Buccaneers, for which he was active from 2005 to 2007 in the junior league United States Hockey League . In 2006 he won the Clark Cup with his team . He himself has also received several awards and was voted best defender and the USHL's All-Star Team in 2007. He also took part in the league's all-star game. During his junior years he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the second round as a total of 45 players by the Edmonton Oilers . First, however, he attended Michigan State University from 2007 to 2010 , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . During this period he was also able to convince and was appointed to the All-Rookie Team of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in 2008 and to the second All-Star Team of the CCHA in 2010.
Towards the end of the 2009/10 season , Petry made his professional ice hockey debut for Edmonton's then- farm team Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League . In eight games he prepared three goals. In the 2010/11 season , the American played for the first time for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League , but continued to play regularly in the AHL for Edmonton's new farm team Oklahoma City Barons . In the 2011/12 season, the right-handed shooter was finally able to earn a regular place in the Oilers' NHL team.
In March 2015, the Oilers then gave him to the Canadiens de Montréal and received in return a second-round vote and a performance-based five-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft . In the Canadiens jersey, the defender achieved his best career performance to date with 42 scorer points in the 2017/18 season and increased it by a further four points the following year.
International
For the USA , Petry first took part in the 2012 World Cup in Sweden and Finland . In his competitive debut for the national team on May 4, 2012, he scored a goal in a 7-2 win over France . At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the bronze medal with it.
