Victor Mete (born June 7, 1998 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League since March 2017 and plays for them in the position of defender .
Career
Victor Mete was born in Toronto and went through the junior teams of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens . In the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the defender was selected by the Owen Sound Attack in eighth position in 2014 , but handed over to the London Knights a few months later and without having played a competitive game . In return, Owen Sound received six draft votes from the Knights. Thus Mete ran for the London Knights in the OHL at the beginning of the 2014/15 season and came there as a rookie in 58 games on 23 points , so that he was elected to the OHL Second All-Rookie Team . His breakthrough at the Knights came the following year, when he and the team won both the OHL playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the subsequent Memorial Cup and led all defenders in the league in the plus / minus statistics ( +53). As a result, Mete was considered in the NHL Entry Draft 2016 in 100th position by the Canadiens de Montréal .
The Canadiens provided the Canadian with an entry level contract after another OHL season in March 2017 , before surprisingly in the subsequent preparation for the season - both because of his late draft choice and because of his height of 1 for NHL standards , 75 meters below average physique - a place in the Canadiens roster. As a result, Mete made his debut in October 2017 in the National Hockey League (NHL).
International
On an international level, Mete made his debut at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in November 2014 , where he finished sixth with Team Canada Red . In August 2015, he participated in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament , with the defender winning the gold medal with the Canadian selection. When he was appointed to the Canadian U20 team for the first time , he also won the gold medal in the 2018 U20 World Junior Championship .
