Nick Tarnasky (born November 24, 1984 in Rocky Mountain House , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Montréal Canadiens in the National Hockey League since July 2013 .
Career
Nick Tarnasky began his career as a hockey player in the Western Hockey League , where he was on the ice from 2001 to 2004 for the Vancouver Giants , Kelowna Rockets and Lethbridge Hurricanes . After his second WHL season, the center was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the ninth round as a total of 287 players by the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 2004/05 season Tarnasky played for the first time for Tampa's then farm team from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Falcons, and was used in all 80 regular season games. In the following season, the Canadian made his debut in the National Hockey League , in which he played twelve times for Tampa.
After two more years with Tampa Bay Tarnasky was on 29 September 2008 in exchange for a possible sixth-round vote in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to the Nashville Predators made that him after less than two months in exchange for Wade Belak to the Florida Panthers transferred . After two seasons, however, his contract was not extended and Tarnasky was invited to the Chicago Blackhawks training camp in September 2010 . A few days later, it was announced that the Blackhawks had released him from training camp and Tarnasky initially remained without a club before signing a contract with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL in November 2010 . After only three games, he was committed by the Springfield Falcons from the AHL for a try-out.
For the 2011/12 season Tarnasky moved to Vitjas Chekhov from the Continental Hockey League and was one of the players with the most penalty minutes. In July 2012 he was hired by the Buffalo Sabers , who used him in the AHL with the Rochester Americans . For the 2013/14 season he signed a contract with the Montréal Canadiens .
