Nicholas Rory Ross (born February 10, 1989 in Lethbridge , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for DVTK Jegesmedvék in the Slovakian extra league since May 2019 .

Career

Nick Ross began his career in his hometown of Lethbridge and played for the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the 2004/05 season. At the WHL Bantam Draft 2004 he was selected in the second round by the Regina Pats and in 2005 moved to the Pats in the Western Hockey League . There Ross showed excellent performances and was one of the most promising talents in the WHL. In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft , he was finally selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round in 30th place. In January 2008, the Regina Pats Ross transferred to the Kamloops Blazers and received Victor Bartley in return , with two other defenders and a draft option being swapped. After he was eliminated in the playoffs with the Blazers , Ross made his debut in the American Hockey League at the end of the season and played four games for San Antonio Rampage , the farm team of the Phoenix Coyotes. In the 2008/09 season he continued to play for the Blazers before he was transferred to the Vancouver Giants in January 2009 .

After the end of his junior years Ross played from the 2009/10 season for two years in the AHL for San Antonio Rampage and in the ECHL for the Las Vegas Wranglers . He spent the 2011/12 season with the Coyotes' new farm team, the Portland Pirates . Since Ross could not confirm his good performance during his junior years in the professional area, he did not receive a new contract offer from the Coyotes. In July 2012 he signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg from the Austrian ice hockey league . After nine league games and six appearances in the European Trophy 2012 , Ross moved to the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League in October 2012 . For the next season he signed with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana and returned to the ÖEL. There he was the best defender of his team on points, but with whom he could not qualify for the playoffs. Therefore, he moved to Asiago Hockey in the Italian league in February 2014 . There he made 17 games and made it to the playoff semi-finals. In April 2014 Ross signed with HC Innsbruck and returned to the Austrian league again. After 34 scorer points in 54 games, his contract was extended. In February 2016, his departure at the end of the 2015/16 season was first announced, on July 1, 2016, Ross surprisingly received an extension of his contract by one year.
