Acquisition by Rogers Media

In 2000, CTV bought Netstar, the parent company of The Sports Network (TSN) . The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved the takeover subject to conditions. CTV had to sell its stake in Sportsnet before it was allowed to take over Netstar. Rogers Communications was the only company interested in the purchase, so that the takeover was successfully completed in 2001, and the station changed its label from CTV Sportsnet to Rogers Sportsnet. During the takeover transaction, however, CTV had influence on both channels in the programming. In the course of the following years, Rogers Communication also took over the shares of Molsons and Fox, so that the company is the only partner.

In autumn 2011, the station was restructured and has been operating under the name Sportsnet ever since .
