Memorial Cup 1922

The Memorial Cup 1922 was the fourth edition of the tournament of the same name . Participating teams were the champions of their respective leagues, the Regina Patricias ( Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League ) and the Fort William War Veterans ( Ontario Hockey Association ). The tournament mode provided for two games in which the winner was determined solely on the basis of the goals scored.

The Fort William War Veterans won the Memorial Cup in their first and only final after two games with 8-7 goals. For the first time, the tournament was not played in Toronto , but in Shea's Amphitheater in Winnipeg . For the Patricias it was the second final defeat after 1919 .

Results

In the first game of the series, the Fort William War Veterans were in the lead after the first third with 3-1 goals. In the second half of the game, Regina's player Syl Acaster scored three goals, a so-called hat trick . In the final third, Clark Whyte scored two more goals for the War Veterans and thus also the winning goal.

In the second game of this series, Clark Whyte proved again as a crucial player for the Veterans; the player scored all three goals for his team. Syl Acaster scored two goals for the Regina Patricias, and Harvey Naismith also scored once.

Memorial Cup Winner

The Fort William War Veterans team consisted of Walter Adams , Johnny Bates , Jerry Bourke , Ted D'Arcy , John Enwright , Alex Philips , Fred Thornes and Clark Whyte . The manager and coach of the team was Stan Bliss .
