The Castle Hemmerich is the ruin of a castle in Bornheimer district Hemmerich (Jenner Road) in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The castle was built on a Roman settlement and in 1210 was owned by the knight Albero von Hemberg, a member of an influential noble family.

The castle was given the Rhenish Rococo style after it was redesigned between 1729 and 1733 by Maria Elisabeth zum Pütz from a family of mayors from Cologne and Düsseldorf. It was acquired by Karl Freiherr von Nordeck (1793–1853) in 1825, and his family owned it until 2008.

After the castle was destroyed due to fires in 1869 and 1906, the mansion was designed by architect William count Mörner as Villa in the style of Neo-Renaissance built again. After a third fire in 1945, triggered by forced laborers released during the Second World War , the castle was only a ruin. The current owners are the Stollenwerk family, owners of the canning factory of the same name .
