The company J. & W. Stollenwerk oHG is one of the largest European canning manufacturers based in Kerpen - Blatzheim .
The company, founded in 1932 as an agricultural operation, was originally located in Blatzheim . In 1962, the Stollenwerk brothers began producing canned food. However, since there was no longer any possibility of expansion within the locality , the administration was relocated to nearby Girbelsrath in 1985 and a completely new production facility was built there on 23 hectares. The Blatzheim location is still the company's headquarters and a production subsidiary. The finished goods are stored in many places in the area. The canned goods are delivered with our own fleet of around 40 vehicles.
Only a few products bear the name "Stollenwerk". The vast majority of canned goods are produced for discount stores , such as Aldi or Lidl . In addition to canned food, fresh salads are also made.
The company has other production facilities in the Palatinate and in Eastern Germany.
Nothing is known about the turnover . Around 250 people plus seasonal workers work in Girbelsrath. Around 500 people work in the entire company.
In the course of the discussion about the environmental problems caused by the company, figures became known: as early as 1977 the company had around 120 employees who produced almost 20 million canned food a year, which corresponded to 8 percent of the German market.
The Neusser Sauerkrautfabrik Rheins & Nolden Feinkost GmbH in Merzenich , the Burgmühle Salate u. Vegetables GmbH in Kerpen , the Essig-Brauerei Friedrich Feldmann GmbH & Co. KG in Karlsruhe and the canning factory Spreewald-Feldmann GmbH & Co. KG in Lübben .
Stollenwerk has its own company fire brigade .
Willy Stollenwerk (born January 15, 1935) has been an entrepreneur in the canning industry for over 50 years. Two sons of Josef and Willy Stollenwerk are also shareholders .
Willy Stollenwerk is deputy chairman of the Federal Association of the Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Processing Industry . Josef Stollenwerk was honorary president of the Federal Association of Economy, Transport and Logistics (BWVL).
