Wireless eXtended Range Electronic Projectile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wireless eXtended Range Electronic Projectile (XREP) is an electric shock projectile that was developed by the US manufacturer Taser International .

XREP projectiles can use a commercially available shotgun in 12 caliber are shot and have a use range m to about 30 microns. When it hits the human body, the projectile makes several electrical contacts to the skin, via which voltage pulses of up to 500 volts and a current of 1.3 milliamperes are transmitted for 20 seconds via a microcontroller. If the target person tries to remove the bullet by hand, a circuit is closed from the electrode on the head of the bullet via the arm, which intensifies the effect of the voltage pulses. Sales were stopped in 2012 because the product was expensive and did not find enough (commercial) buyers.

The cost was around $ 100 per shot.

With Thor Shield, a special polyester fabric from G2 Consulting, there is also protective clothing that is supposed to provide complete protection against non-lethal electric shock weapons. The sale of clothing is restricted to the military and state security forces.
