Erik Gudbranson (born January 7, 1992 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League since October 2019 . Previously, the defender spent five years with the Florida Panthers , who had selected him in third position in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , as well as three years with the Vancouver Canucks and a short time with the Pittsburgh Penguins .

Career

Gudbranson began his career with the Gloucester Rangers team in the ODHA amateur league. In 2007 he moved to Ottawa Junior 67’s and played there for one season.

In the OHL Priority Selection 2008 he was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the first round in fourth place. In his rookie year in the OHL, the defender had three goals and 19 assists for a total of 22 points in 63 games. His team, however, missed the playoffs. In the 2009/10 season he was only able to participate in 41 season games due to illness, in which he collected two goals and 21 templates. In the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round in third place overall by the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League . The 2010/11 season was his season with the highest points so far, in 44 games Gudbranson scored 34 points, including twelve goals and 22 assists. On July 15, 2011, Gudbranson signed a three-year entry - level contract with the Florida Panthers.

After five seasons in the Panthers' jersey, Gudbranson and a five-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft were given to the Vancouver Canucks , who in return sent Jared McCann and a second-round and four-round vote for the same draft to Florida. The defender spent nearly three seasons at the Canucks. The team remained largely unsuccessful, so that the defender was given to the Pittsburgh Penguins in February 2019 in exchange for Tanner Pearson .

The Penguins in turn transferred Gudbranson to the Anaheim Ducks in October 2019 , who in return sent Andreas Martinsen and a seven-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 to Pittsburgh.
