Frank "Sonny" Milano (born May 12, 1996 in Massapequa , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League since February 2020 and plays there on the position of the left winger . Previously, he spent about five years in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization .
Career
Milano first played for the Cleveland Barons in the North American Hockey League during his junior years between 2011 and 2012 . He then worked for two years for the US National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League . Although he was selected in the first round in the first round of the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League in 14th place in the NHL Entry Draft and was signed by them a little later, the striker initially joined the Plymouth Whalers from the Ontario Hockey League . Towards the end of the 2014/15 season, Milano finally made his professional debut for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League .
In the summer of 2016, Milano's OHL rights were initially transferred to the Flint Firebirds , who had taken over the business of the Plymouth Whalers. This transferred the same but soon to league rivals London Knights . But since the Columbus Blue Jackets decided to bring their first round pick closer to the NHL at professional level, Milano spent the season with the Blue Jackets' new farm team , the Lake Erie Monsters . With these he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season . During the season, Milano also made his NHL debut and was used in three games for Columbus.
After about five years in the organization of the Blue Jackets, Milano was handed over to the Anaheim Ducks for the trade deadline in February 2020 , while Devin Shore moved to Columbus in return .
International
Milano took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 , the U18 Junior World Championship in 2014 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2015 and 2016 for its home country . He was able to win the bronze medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2016. At the U18 Junior World Championships in 2014, the team was crowned world champion in this age group. Milano scored the decisive goal in the final game to make it 3-2 in a 5-2 win over the Czech Republic.
He made his debut for the senior national team in his home country at the 2018 World Cup , where he won the bronze medal with the team.
