Egill Þormóðsson (born August 26, 1991 ) is an Icelandic ice hockey player who has been under contract with UMFK Esja in the Icelandic ice hockey league since 2014 .

Career

Egill Þormóðsson began his career as a hockey player at Skautafélag Reykjavíkur , for whom he made his debut in the Icelandic ice hockey league as a teenager . After becoming Icelandic champions in 2009 with his team, he moved to Mörrums GoIS IK in Sweden, where he was used in both the U18 and U20 teams. Before the end of the season, he returned to Reykjavík in early 2010, where he was again on the ice at Skautafélag. In 2014 he moved to UMFK Esja , who had just been accepted into the Icelandic league. In 2017 he was Icelandic champion with the club.

International

Egill Þormóðsson played for Iceland as a teenager. He first took part in the U18 World Championships in 2006 in Division II and in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 , when he made a significant contribution to the rise of the Icelanders as the top scorer and top scorer of the tournament, in Division III. With the U20 selection of Icelanders, he took part in the 2007 and 2008 World Championships in Division II and in 2010 in Division III.

In parallel to his appearances in the junior teams, Egill Þormóðsson already played in the men's national team . He made his debut as an 18-year-old at the 2009 World Cup in Division II. He also represented the Northmen in Division II in 2010 , 2011 , when he was named the best player in the Icelandic team, in 2013 , 2015 and 2016 his colors in qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
