Joonas Nättinen (born January 3, 1991 in Jämsä ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Severstal Tscherepowez from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since August 2020 and plays there in the position of the center .
Career
Joonas Nättinen began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of JYP Jyväskylä , where he went through all levels in the top division of Finland from 2005 to 2008 from C to A juniors. He then moved to the Espoo Blues , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2008/09 season . In its rookie year , the center remained pointless in 14 games. He also ran for Espoo in five Champions Hockey League games . In his three years with Espoo Blues, he continued to play for the club's A-Juniors and for the Finnish U20 national team in the Mestis , the second Finnish division. In the 2009/10 season he was on loan in ten games for Hokki Kajaani in the Mestis, in the following season for HPK Hämeenlinna to eleven appearances in the SM-liiga.
For the 2011/12 season , Nättinen was ordered to North America by the Canadiens de Montréal , who had already selected him as the 65th player in the third round in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft , where he was their farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs , until 2014 American Hockey League played. He also made his debut on January 18, 2014 for the Canadiens in the National Hockey League , but it stayed with this one NHL game. After his three-year contract expired, he decided to return to Europe and was signed by MODO Hockey from the Svenska Hockeyligan . The following season he rejoined his hometown club JYP Jyväskylä.
In the summer of 2018, the Finn decided to play in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). There he spent the 2018/19 season at Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk , before moving to league rivals HK Vitjas for one season in July 2019 . In August 2020, Nättinen Severstal joined Cherepovets .
International
For Finland , Nättinen took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009 as well as the U20 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 . At the U18 World Cup 2009 he won the bronze medal with his team, and at the U20 World Cup 2011 he was voted one of the three best players on his team.
