Artūrs Kulda (born July 25, 1988 in Leipzig , GDR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Severstal Tscherepowez in the Continental Hockey League again since December 2019 .

Career

Kulda began his career at HK Prizma Riga , for whom he played in the Latvian ice hockey league for the first time in the 2003/04 season . In the 2005/06 season he played for the second team of HK CSKA Moscow before he was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers in 200th place. Shortly thereafter, he was selected by the Peterborough Petes in the CHL Import Draft and played for that club in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) between 2006 and 2008 . Shortly before the AHL playoffs of the 2007/08 season , he was appointed to the Chicago Wolves squad and won the Calder Cup with his new team . As a result, he was a permanent member of the Wolves AHL squad.

In February 2010 he was called up for the first time in the NHL squad of the Atlanta Thrashers and made his debut on February 12, 2010 in the game against the Minnesota Wild . After relocating the Thrashers franchise to Winnipeg , Canada , the Latvian decided in July 2011 to sign a new contract with the Winnipeg Jets . In mid-July 2012, Kulda was signed by HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Continental Hockey League and scored 16 points in 57 KHL games for the club. In October 2013 Kulda was signed by Salawat Yulayev Ufa for two years.

From October 2015 to June 2017 he was under contract with Jokerit . He took part in the 2015 Spengler Cup with the Finns and was appointed to the tournament's all-star team. In 2017 he switched to the Chinese league competitor Kunlun Red Star and was transferred to HC Sparta Prague from the Czech extra league in January 2018 .

In the 2018/19 season he was under contract with Severstal Tscherepowez and was then without a club. He was signed to Dinamo Riga in December 2019, but left Dinamo after just six games and returned to Severstal.

International

Artūrs Kulda played at the U18 World Championships in 2004 , 2005 and 2006 for the Latvian U18 junior selection in Division I. From 2006 he played for the U20 national team , which at the U20 Junior World Championships in Canada from the top division in the Division I was relegated, in which he then played in 2007 . In 2008 he rose again to the top division with the U20 selection and was voted the best defender of the tournament.

With the Latvian senior selection, Kulda took part in the 2010 , 2011 , 2013 , 2014 and 2017 World Championships . He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics and at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi himself.
