Mantas Armalis (born September 6, 1992 in Plungė ) is a Lithuanian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Skellefteå AIK from Svenska Hockeyligan since 2018 . In addition to his sporting career, he also works as a model .
Career
Mantas Armalis grew up in Sweden and belonged to the youth department of the Haninge HF . In the 2007/08 season he played with the U16 juniors from Djurgårdens IF . He then moved to Mora IK , for whom he was in goal from 2009 to 2012 in the J20 SuperElit , the highest junior league in Sweden. In his first senior season he was loaned to the third division team Tranås AIF . The 2013/13 season he ran for Mora in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second highest Swedish league. In summer 2014 he moved back to Djurgårdens IF, which had just been promoted to Svenska Hockeyligan . In the two seasons at Djurgården he was used in a total of 57 games in the top Swedish league and nine games in the Champions Hockey League .
In April 2016 he signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League (NHL) and ran for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League . After a year in which he was used exclusively in the AHL, Armalis returned to Europe and joined Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League . In 2018 he moved back to the Svenska Hockey-Ligan, where he is now in goal for the Skellefteå AIK .
International
For Lithuania, Armalis participated in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championships in Division I in 2009 , when he was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament, and in 2010, as well as in the U20 World Junior Championships in Division I in 2011 and Division II in 2012 when he was with the best catch statistics (94.4% saved shots) not only as the best goalkeeper of the tournament, but also as the best player of his team.
For the Lithuanian men's national team , he played in Division I at the 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2018 and 2019 World Championships . In 2013 and 2014 he achieved the third-best catch rate of all goalkeepers in Group B of Division I with over 90% and was also voted the best player on his team in 2014. In 2015 he achieved the best catch rate with 93.8% and was thus also voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament in Group B of Division I. , In 2018 he achieved the second-best catch quota and the second-lowest counter goal behind the Estonian Villem-Henrik Koitmaa and thus became a strong support for the Lithuanians when they were promoted from the B group to the A group of Division I for the first time.
He also took part in the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and in Pyeongchang , South Korea, in 2018 . However, the Lithuanian team failed in the first qualifying round.

Personal
Armalis has a younger brother (Julius, * 1997) who is also an ice hockey goalkeeper. His parents were professional orienteers and immigrated to Sweden when their firstborn son was four months old. In addition to his sporting career, Armalis works as a model , including for the fashion company Versace .
