Joakim Lindström (born December 5, 1983 in Skellefteå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player . Since May 2016, the center has been playing again at Skellefteå AIK from Svenska Hockeyligan .
Career
Lindström began his professional career at MODO Hockey , where he was active until 2005 and became Swedish runner-up in 2002. During this time he was selected in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round at a total of 41st position. His first appearances in North America were at the end of the 2004/05 season, when he went on the ice for Columbus' farm team , the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League . In the Blue Jackets, the striker could not prevail, in three seasons with the Ohio franchise Lindström came to 37 missions, in which he scored four goals and a total of eight points .
Lindström was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks on July 15, 2008 . For the Ducks, however, he was not used, but played for their farm team Iowa Chops in the AHL. In October 2008, the Californians put him on the waiver list , from which Lindström was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks on October 3 . A few days later they also put the striker on the waiver list, so that he was selected again by the Anaheim Ducks and sent to the Iowa Chops farm team. After 21 games for the Chops, Lindström was given to the Phoenix Coyotes by the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Logan Stephenson . With the Coyotes, Lindström made the jump to the NHL team, the center completed 44 games for the Arizona franchise in the 2008/09 season , scoring 20 points. However, the Swede's expiring contract was not extended.
After a season with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Continental Hockey League (KHL), Lindström signed a two-year contract with his home club Skellefteå AIK for the 2010/11 season , for which he played until 1999 during his youth. At the end of this season, Lindström was the top player in the league with 28 goals and a total of 60 scorer points in 54 games. In the play-offs Skellefteå lost the final against Färjestad BK .
On June 15, 2011, Lindström signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League. After the Avs put him on the waiver list on November 29, 2011 and the Swede was not selected by any team, he returned to his home country at Skellefteå AIK in early December 2011. In 2013 he signed a five-year contract with Skellefteå AIK.
After he won the title with Skellefteå AIK in the 2013/14 season and was awarded the Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy himself , the St. Louis Blues signed him in May 2014. In March 2015, however, the Swede switched to the Toronto Maple Leafs with a success-based six- round voting right for the NHL Entry Draft 2016 , who in return gave Olli Jokinen to the Blues. Lindström finished the season in Toronto, signed a contract with SKA Saint Petersburg on May 1, 2015 and thus returned (on loan) to the KHL. After the end of the 2015/16 season, he returned to Skellefteå AIK.
International
Joakim Lindström played for the Swedish national team at the 2001 U18 Junior World Championship and the 2003 U20 Junior World Championship . In both competitions, the Swedes did not win a medal.
