Oscar Klefbom (born July 20, 1993 in Karlstad ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Edmonton Oilers from the National Hockey League since June 2012 and has played for them in the position of defender since the 2013/14 season .
Career
Oscar Klefbom began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Hammarö HC. From there he moved to Färjestad BK in 2008 , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 2010/11 season . In his rookie year , the defender scored one goal and one assist each in 23 games and immediately won the Swedish championship with his team . At the same time, he was used for Färjestad cooperation partner Skåre BK in the third-class Division 1, in which he had already gained match practice in the senior division last year at Skåre BK and IFK Munkfors .
With his achievements he was able to convince the talent scouts and was selected after the season in the KHL Junior Draft in the first round as a total of 20th player from Salawat Yulayev Ufa and then in the NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the 19th player in total the Edmonton Oilers . For the time being, however, the defender stayed with Färjestad BK for two years before moving to North America for the 2013/14 season.
There he played one season mainly for the Oilers' farm team , the Oklahoma City Barons , in the American Hockey League (AHL) before establishing himself in Edmonton's NHL squad during the 2014/15 season. He then signed a new contract with the Oilers in September 2015, which is expected to earn him an average annual salary of around $ 4 million over the next seven seasons. In the following 2015/16 season, Klefbom only made 30 missions due to several injuries.
International
For Sweden , Klefbom took part in the 2011 U18 World Cup in the junior division. As captain, he led his team to win the silver medal and was voted one of the top three players on his team. The following year, he was with the Swedish selection at the U20 World Cup 2012 Junior World Champion. At senior level, the defender took part for the first time in the 2015 World Cup, in which the team finished fifth.
