Corey Mapes (born June 22, 1992 in Heilbronn ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Heilbronner Falken from the DEL2 since 2017 .
Career
Corey Mapes came to ice hockey at the age of six and went through the youth department at Heilbronner EC until he was a boy. In 2004 he moved to SC Bietigheim-Bissingen , for whom he played in the school league until 2007. During this time he came into the focus of the Adler Mannheim's talent scouts , whose ice hockey boarding school he attended from 2007. Due to the close coupling of training and everyday school life, Mapes was able to master school despite intensive sporting activity. With the young eagles he was three times in a row German champion in the German Junior League (DNL) between 2008 and 2010 . In autumn 2009, he played five games for the Heilbronner Falken in the 2nd Bundesliga, which was the first time he played in a professional league.
The Adler management closely monitored his development and in 2010 offered him a two-year contract including a production license for the Heilbronner Falken, which he accepted. Before the start of the 2010/11 season, he was used in all of the Eagles' European Trophy games. In a game between ERC Ingolstadt and Düsseldorfer EG , in whose team Mapes had played since 2013, he suffered a fracture of the third lumbar vertebra on January 28, 2014 due to a body check by his opponent Jean-François Boucher . His club then applied for a preliminary investigation by the DEL against Boucher, who was accused of a foul. The DEL Disciplinary Committee agreed with this view and suspended Boucher for six games and a fine of € 1,800. The day after the game, Mapes underwent emergency surgery. The media reported that the injuries threatened paralysis, but he was able to leave the hospital after two weeks with a good prognosis.
After a one-year engagement with the Kassel Huskies from the DEL2 , Mapes was hired by the Heilbronner Falken for two years in April 2017.
