Stefan Gabriel Della Rovere (born February 25, 1990 in Richmond Hill , Ontario ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Heilbronner Falken in the DEL2 since May 2019 .

Career

Stefan Della Rovere grew up in Maple , a suburb northwest of Toronto . He attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Maple and played as a junior in the Greater Toronto Hockey League for the Vaughan Rangers , Toronto Marlboros and Toronto Junior Canadiens .

Della Rovere was selected in 2006 during the OHL Priority Selection by the Barrie Colts from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the first round in a total of 16th place. In his rookie year, he scored seven goals in 48 games and won the gold medal with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games . After Della Rovere had improved to 13 goals and 32 points in the 2007/08 season , he was selected by the Washington Capitals from the National Hockey League in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft .

After an outstanding 2008/09 season with the Colts, during which he had won the gold medal at the U20 Junior World Championship , he signed an NHL entry contract with the Capitals towards the end of the season . He then made his professional debut with the ECHL - farm team of the capital, the South Carolina Stingrays . For the 2009/10 season , Della Rovere returned to the Barrie Colts, where he was named team captain. He also took part again in the U20 Junior World Championship , which he concluded by winning the silver medal. In addition, towards the end of the season, the attacker played two games for the Hershey Bears - also a farm team of the Capitals - in the playoffs of the American Hockey League (AHL), in which the team won the Calder Cup a little later .

Following the 2009/10 season, his NHL rights were given to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for DJ King . The Blues first used him with the Peoria Rivermen in the AHL. Della Rovere was named on December 1, 2010 by the Blues in the NHL squad and made his debut in the NHL against the Washington Capitals that same evening. In total, he was used seven times in the NHL, but remained without a scorer point . Therefore, he spent the next three years exclusively with the Rivermen in the AHL. On September 28, 2014 signed the Toronto Marlies , also from the American Hockey League, Della Rovere. After attending the Marlies training camp, he was loaned out to the farm team, the Orlando Solar Bears , for the 2014/15 season. He was named team captain there and scored 26 points in 59 games.

On August 30, 2015 Della Rovere signed a one-year contract with HC Valpellice from the Italian Serie A . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he played for HC Fassa in the Alps Hockey League before moving to the Braehead Clan from the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in February 2017 . On July 21, 2017 Della Rovere signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies from the DEL2 and received German citizenship in October 2017. In Kassel he did not fully meet expectations and therefore returned to Great Britain a year later to play for the Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL. In January 2019 he returned to the DEL2 when he was signed by the Dresdner Eislöwen . With the Eislöwen he reached the play-off semi-finals via the pre-play-offs and the quarter-finals. In a total of 28 DEL2 games for the Dresden club, Della Rovere scored 22 points. After the end of the 2018/19 season, he left Dresden and was signed by the Heilbronner Falken .
