Žiga Pešut (born October 5, 1992 in Maribor , Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who was last under contract with EHC Bayreuth in the DEL2 until October 2017 .

Žiga Pešut began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HDK Maribor , for whose second team ( Maribor mladi ) he made his debut in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 2008/09 season . After playing in the junior teams for Grums IK in 2009/10, he also played in the fourth-class 2nd Swedish division , he moved to the Czech Republic. First he played two years in the local U20 league for HC Slezan Opava and BK Mladá Boleslav . He then spent the 2012/13 season in the 2nd division , the third highest Czech division, where he only came to one game for NED Hockey Nymburk. From 2013 to 2017 he played for HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , where he was mainly used in the Austrian ice hockey league . During the playoffs, he was also used in the Slovenian ice hockey league and thus became Slovenian champions in 2014 and 2016 and also cup winners in 2016 . In 2017 he moved to EHC Bayreuth , where his contract was terminated in October after only nine games.

International

For Slovenia Pešut took part in the junior division of the U18 World Cup in Division II in 2009 and 2010 , when he formed by far the best attack row of the tournament in the Ukrainian capital Kiev with Rok Leber and Gal Koren and was the top scorer with both of them and the top scorer together with Leber , as well as the U20 Junior World Championships in Division I in 2011 and 2012 .

He made his debut in the Slovenian men's selection at the World Championships in Division I in 2016 , when he was promoted to the top division.
