Miikka Salomäki (* 9. March 1993 in Raahe ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who, since February 2020 the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League for use comes. Career
Miikka Salomäki began his career as an ice hockey player in the junior division of Kärpät Oulu , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2010/11 season . In his rookie year , he scored four goals in a total of 43 games and provided seven assists. In addition, the winger was on the ice in five pre-season games of the European Trophy and played in three games, in each of which he scored one goal and one assist, as a loan player for the Finnish U20 national team in the Mestis , the second Finnish division, on.
He was then selected first in the KHL Junior Draft in the second round as the 36th player from HK Dinamo Minsk and finally in the NHL Entry Draft in the second round as the 52nd player from the Nashville Predators .
In April 2013 he received a three-year NHL entry contract from the Predators and was appointed to the Milwaukee Admirals from the American Hockey League for the 2013/14 season . After making his debut with the Predators in January 2015, the Finn earned a regular place in the NHL squad at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. He lost this again in the 2019/20 season before it was handed over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2020 after almost seven years in Nashville . In return, the Predators received defender Ben Harpur .
International
For Finland Salomäki took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2011 . At the U18 World Cup 2010 he won the bronze medal with his team, at the U18 World Cup 2011 he was voted one of the three best players on his team.
In the men's area, Salomäki made his debut at the 2014 World Cup and won the silver medal with the team.
