Career
Ben Harpur played in his youth for the Niagara Falls Canucks , among others , before he was selected in 2011 in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League in 43rd position by the Guelph Storm . After 34 games in his rookie year, he established himself as a defensively oriented defender with the Storm at the beginning of the 2012/13 season and was considered 108th by the Ottawa Senators at the end of the season in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft . For now, however, the Canadian returned to Guelph as expected and won the OHL playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the team in the 2013/14 season . After the Senators provided him with an entry-level contract in November 2014 , the Guelph Storm gave him to the Barrie Colts just under two months later within the OHL as part of a multi-player and draft option transfer . With the Colts, he ended the season and then moved to the Senators organization.
For the time being, Harpur was mainly used with Ottawa's farm teams, especially with the Binghamton Senators from the second-rate American Hockey League (AHL), but also with the Evansville IceMen from the third-rate ECHL . At the same time, the defender made his debut for the Senators in the National Hockey League (NHL) in January 2016 . He also spent most of the 2016/17 season in the AHL and was only sporadically on the ice in the NHL, but played nine games in the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs . With the start of the 2017/18 season, Harpur received more ice age in the NHL, but continued to move regularly to the AHL, to Ottawa's new farm team, the Belleville Senators . He also signed a new two-year contract in the Canadian capital in February 2018 and subsequently established himself in the NHL. In early July 2019, however, he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs together with Cody Ceci , Aaron Luchuk and a third-round vote in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Nikita Saizew , Connor Brown and Michael Carcone gave them to Ottawa.
In Toronto, Harpur was only on the ice for the Marlies in the AHL until February 2020 , before he was given to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Miikka Salomäki .
